any person whatever, or (esp. in negative statements and questions) a person, but without saying which person: Hello, is anyone home? If anyone calls, tell them I’m out of the office. We didn’t know anyone when we first moved here, but now we have lots of friends. I can’t think of anyone with more imagination than Maggie.
