a large piece of furniture with a flat surface that a person can lie on to sleep or rest: He felt sick and decided to stay in bed that day. He sat down on the bed and took off his shoes. Some mornings it’s really hard to get out of bed. I'm really tired – I think I'll go to bed (= get into bed in order to sleep).
