a prayer asking for God’s help, or a prayer of thanks for God’s help: Before we eat, Sam will say the blessing. A blessing can mean something that is very good or lucky: It was a blessing that nobody was hurt in the accident. A blessing also means the approval to do something: My parents finally gave their blessing to my marriage.
