Definition

one of the bones that curve around from the spine (= the line of bones down the center of the back) on each side of the upper part of the body to form the chest A rib is also a piece of meat taken from this part of an animal: barbecued ribs Ribs are also the thin, curved pieces of metal or wood that shape and support the sides and bottom of a boat or the top of an umbrella (= a cover that protects from rain or sun).
