a share in an investment trust (= a company that invests in shares of other companies), the profit from which is put back into the investment trust instead of being paid to the shareholder: Normal income units pay out the dividend or interest earned to investors on a regular basis, but accumulation units do not.
a share in a variable annuity (= a type of investment that is sold by an insurance company and makes regular payments to the investor)
