a letter from a doctor saying that someone is too ill to work, or that they are well enough to do a particular job: You will need a doctor's certificate if you are absent for more than three days. Pregnant workers do not have to do night work if they have a doctor's certificate stating that such work would endanger their health. Drivers over 65 must present a doctor's certificate saying they are fit to drive.
