THREAD [C] a short line of thread that is sewn through a piece of material
WOUND [C] one of the small pieces of thread that is used to sew together a cut: She needed 50 stitches in her head.
WOOL [C] one of the small circles of wool that you make when you are knitting (= making something from wool)
PAIN [no plural] a sudden pain that you get in the side of your body when you exercise too much: to get a stitch
in stitches laughing a lot: He had the whole audience in stitches.
