B2 [I or T] to turn from something solid into something soft or liquid, or to cause something to do this: The snow usually melts by mid March. Melt the chocolate slowly so that it doesn't burn. The meat's beautifully cooked - it melts in your mouth (= is so pleasantly soft that you do not need to chew it).
