a large container, made of wood, metal, or plastic, with a flat top and bottom and curved sides that make it fatter in the middle
MEASURES a unit of measure for dry goods and liquids that varies in size for different things and in different countries: A barrel of beer in the US is 31 US gallons, and in the UK it is 36 UK gallons.
MEASURES a unit of measure for oil equal to 42 US gallons or 159 litres: Today oil prices reached $81 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
