The earthquake disaster in South Asia is reflected in the Top 20 for December, despite only occurring on December 26th. tsunami was by far the most searched-for word, and devastate, describing the effect of the earthquake on many regions, comes in at no. 20. The appearance of two traditional Christmas words, tidings and prosperous, probably looked up by people sending or receiving Christmas cards, makes this a particularly poignant list.
