FINANCE, STOCK MARKET used to describe company shares that do not allow their owners the right to vote at shareholder meetings:

We own 500 shares of Class A non-voting stock in the company.
The IRS agreed that the stock had a value of $37 per voting share and $35 per non-voting share.

FINANCE, WORKPLACE used to describe a member of a company's board of directors who does not have the right to vote:

The airline's pilots agreed to a 2% pay cut in return for a non-voting board seat.
