ECONOMICS, POLITICS abbreviation for European Economic Community: an organization formed in 1958 by a group of European countries in order to establish agreed aims, especially in farming and trade, between its member countries. This organization developed into the European Community, which became the European Union in 1994: Denmark decided to join the EEC in 1972.
